Baltimore Orioles vs Chicago White Sox: Preview & Prediction – 5/1/19 (Game 1)

Well, Chicago was hammered with rain Tuesday – pretty much all day and it pushed back the O’s and the Sox to a doubleheader on Wednesday. I checked out the weather for May 1st and it looks like it’s going to be raining all day again. That leaves us with 3 huge questions leading into Wednesday matchups between the winners of three straight (Sox), hosting arguably the worst team in baseball (Orioles): 1) Will either of these games get played tomorrow? 2) If game one gets played, how can you and I make some easy money on the game? & 3) Will the White Sox organization be offering “Dollar Dog Wednesday” during both games, now that there are two?

Moneyline – CWS -170, BAL +160

Runline – CWS -1.5 (+119), BAL +1.5 (-131)

O/U – 8.5 (-110)

First Pitch – 3:10 CT at Guaranteed Rate Field, Chicago, IL

Baltimore Orioles

Now I can’t tell you if the Sox are going to be offering Dollar Dogs at the G-Spot for this game, but what I can tell you is that the Orioles are not very good. They sit at 10-20 entering this game and are on a 3-10 run in their last 13 games. Both ballclubs will send the starters who were supposed to start Tuesday night and that means Andrew Cashner gets the nod for the birds in this game. Cashner has been decent this season, boasting a 4-1 record with an ERA of 4.18 and a WHIP of 1.39. Last time out, he faced the White Sox and struck out 5, while only allowing 1 ER over 7 innings. Offensively, I want to highlight Trey Mancini, who leads this team in batting average with a .355. The Left Fielder has only been decent over the last few games, going 4-13 vs the Sox in the series they played a week ago.

Chicago White Sox

The White Sox will send the man that I think is just dead weight at this point, Ivan Nova, to the mound for Wednesday’s day game. I don’t really like this guy at all, and I think he is one bad start from being run out of town. The White Sox organization is on the come-up, so there is no need to have a washed up bum in the rotation when we are about a season from competing. Anyways, Nova was knocked around Camden Yards in his last start a week ago, giving up 9 ER over 4 innings pitched. The White Sox offense is starting to come around nicely here. Alongside your big guys (Abreu, Anderson, Moncada), the Sox are getting contributions from the bottom of the order – which I just called trash a week ago… because let’s face it, they were. Guys like Yolmer Sanchez, Adam Engel, and newly added OF, Ryan Cordell have been getting on base recently and rolling that order over to the big guns. I’m hoping they keep getting on, and the Sox will continue this win streak.

Analysis & Prediction

I think that everyone, including Ivan Nova knows this is his last start in a big league uniform coming up on Wednesday. With that being said, he still sucks and I think if he continues to lay balls up in the zone, the O’s will score some runs on him. As for the White Sox, I predict their second time against Cashner in a week will prove fruitful and they’ll put up some runs this game. I think you see where this is going – take the over on 8.5 runs in this game and let’s cash our 3rd straight ticket on the Southsiders wagers. Sidenote – the juice is just way too high to throw on Nova, it may be worth a shot to take the plus money on Cashner – but I will not factor this note into my free wagers below. We in the industry, call this a lean.

Trent’s White Sox Free Picks Record

2-2 (-.12 Units). A $100 bettor would be down $12 over Trent’s 4 White Sox picks.
