Bucks hit cruise control past Celtics
By: Emily Musella
The NBA is back and ready to wow it’s fans with a dynamite matchup between the Milwaukee Bucks and Boston Celtics. Though the Celtics are one of the best teams in the league, the Bucks remain one of their kryptonite teams. Can the Celtics pull off the upset and notch their first win since March, or will the Bucks blast through and secure a W at home? You know what time it is, the breakdown shakedown!
Odds: MIL -5, BOS +5
Over/Under: Over 220
Tip-off: July 30th, 6:30 p.m. EST
The Bucks come to Boston with a 7-3 head-to-head record in their last ten games against the Celtics. They average 115 points against them, shoot for nearly 46 % FG and securely nearly 50 rebounds. Not to mention that the Bucks currently sit at the #1 spot in the total score category in the league.
Big-time players like Giannis Antetokounmpo who averaged over 29.5 points per game this season and Kris Middleton will need to hold down the court as their teammates Eric Bledsoe and Pat Connaughton are out due to COVID 19. Brook Lopez will need to use his big-man on the court status to notch some points for his team as well.
Defensively, the Bucks hold the top spot when it comes to defending inside the paint. However, defending the 3pt shots, they are 18th in the league. They will need to shut down key 3 makers like Jayson Tatum and Kemba Walker.
The Celtics square up against the top team in the league tonight. Gordon Hayward, Jayson Tatum and Kemba Walker, the big-three back on the court together will look to light up the scoreboard once again. Head Coach Brad Stevens anticipates coming out of the gate fast for his squad despite a juggernaut Bucks defense.
The Celtics sit at the 11th spot in the league for points scored in a game, with an average of 113. They also average 36% from the 3pt range, which could considerably aid them against a rather average Bucks 3pt defense. If Hayward finds his groove, Walker lasts longer than 15 minutes and Tatum scores over 25 points, the C’s will leave with a W.
Defensively, the Celtics are second in the league and are in the top three for defending the 3pt game. Their biggest problems will be the obvious dynamic duo of Giannis and Middleton. Last time these two teams squared off, both these playmakers hit for a combined 55 points. If these two find their groove early, it could be an exhausting night for the Celtics D.
ANALYSIS AND PREDICTION
Both these teams are pumped to be back on the court with legitimate stakes at hand. With the Bucks holding the top spot and the Celtics sitting at the third spot, these Eastern Conference squads are hungry for W’s. Though the Celtics have one of the best trios in the league, I don’t see them stopping the juggernaut offense of the Bucks. This is the year of the Buck and Giannis will most likely get the go-ahead for NBA MVP. This being said, I see the Bucks winning this game, with a final score of 124-116. The NBA season is back guys, are you ready?
