Boston Red Sox vs Chicago White Sox: Preview & Prediction – 5/2/19

Chicago split their doubleheader vs the Orioles on Wednesday, taking two out of three in the series. They’ve been winners of 4 of 5 and will host the defending World Series Champions in a 4-game set starting tonight. The Red Sox enter this series with a record of 14-17, coming off a sweep of the Oakland A’s in Boston – in which they did the sweeping.

Moneyline – BOS -172, CWS +162

Runline – BOS -1.5 (-115), CWS +1.5 (-105)

O/U – 8.5

First Pitch – 7:10 at Guaranteed Rate Field, Chicago, IL

Boston Red Sox

After a rough start, the BoSox are on an 8-4 run – playing slightly better ball. J.D. Martinez and Mookie Betts have been the only guys consistent for this club to start the 2019 campaign. Martinez enters this series hitting .312 with only 4 longballs. As for Mookie, the soon to be, potential $400 million man?? He’s sitting at .289 with 6 homers and 16 RBI’s. Boston will give lefty, David Price the ball on Thursday night. Price, similarly to the whole rotation, has been underperforming this season. He sits at 1-2 with a 3.60 ERA. The former Vanderbilt Commodore does boast a 1.07 WHIP – pretty solid in that department.

Chicago White Sox

The Sox won the second game of their doubleheader in walk-off fashion last night, as Yonder Alonso hit a two-run single in the bottom of the 9th to win the game 7-6. Jose Abreu is red hot right now, having 8 XBH over the last week and he’s riding a 10 game hit streak. Over the last five seasons, he’s struggled against Price, hitting a lowly .143 (2-14). Lucas Giolito will make his 1st start back since having his hamstring issue two weeks ago. Giolito has shown bright spots this season, but overall he’s posted a 5.30 ERA over 18.2 innings and a WHIP of 1.34.

Analysis & Prediction

As a White Sox fan, I’m feeling decent about our club right now. I think the Sox should easily be on a 5-game win streak, but we were let down again. They went through the easiest stretch of their schedule just now – going only 6-5. The Red Sox, coming off a sweep of the A’s, are starting to resemble some flashes of their team last season. I think this is a series where the Red Sox get back on track and make a run to get back within striking distance of the East – it just feels like their hangover might be coming to an end. I’d take the Red Sox -172. The White Sox should have won 8 or 9 games over this previous stretch so the fact they only won 6, gives me the confidence to bet against them here. We’re hot right now on the Sox wagers, cashing 3 straight tickets – let’s make it 4!

Trent’s White Sox Free Picks Record

3-2 (+.79 Units). A $100 bettor would be UP $79 over Trent’s 5 White Sox picks.
