Celtics and Bulls clash for Monday night NBA action!
The Boston Celtics host the Chicago Bulls tonight at the Garden. The Celtics are coming off a six-game win streak capped off by their W over the Golden State Warriors on Saturday night. The Bulls are 1-5 in their last six games and continue to be without star player Zach LaVine. Will the C’s add another victory to their win column, or will the Bulls pull off the upset in Beantown? You know what time it is, the breakdown shakedown!
Odds: BOS -6, CHI +6
Tip-off: April 19th, 7:30 p.m. EST, TD Garden
CHICAGO BULLS (23-33)
The Bulls are 4-6 over their last ten games but halted the bleeding last time out as they picked up a win over Cavaliers. Nikola Vucevic led the way in scoring with 25 while Lauri Markkanen added 16 and six boards. They were effective from the field despite missing their leader in Zach LaVine. Chicago shot 50.0% and they held Cleveland to just 44.3%.
The season is quickly taking a turn for the worst and things are not going well since Vucevic came into town. And it’ll take some time for everyone to get on the same page but with only 20 games left, you’d hope they figure it out soon. With the expanded playoff system that Adam Silver introduced, there is absolutely no reason that the Bulls shouldn’t make it into the play-in round.
BOSTON CELTICS (31-26)
The Celtics continue to be without Robert Williams III (Time Lord) as he is recovering from a knee injury. Also posted on the injury report is Kemba Walker and Jaylen Brown who are both listed as QUESTIONABLE with illnesses non-Covid related. As the Boston squad faces the Chicago Bulls tonight at the Garden, one question remains, can they continue their win streak?
Offensively, the Celtics are thriving with the Jay’s of Tatum and Brown averaging nearly 25 points per game a piece. Meanwhile, the Celtics picked up Jabari Parker who debuted with the team on Sunday night and played efficiently shooting 5-6 for 11 points in 16 minutes. The Celtics are loaded with talent and leadership as Marcus Smart and Kemba Walker continue to let their passion and dedication for the game pour out on the court. They also have a slight edge from the 3-point range as they are 10th best in the NBA compared to the Bulls 13th spot.
On the defense, the C’s will face a pivotal former teammate in big-man Daniel Theis. The Boston defense does catch a break with Zach LaVine sidelined, but the big threat now is Nikola Vucevic who averages nearly 23 points per game. Alongside Vucevic, Coby White and Lauri Markkanen will also need to be looked out for, especially from inside the paint. Overall, the Celtics are 10th in total score, 13th in FG%, 18th in 3-point%, and 7th in total rebounds.
Emily’s Best Bet
My best bet is for the Celtics to cover the 6-point spread tonight. In their last matchup against the Bulls back in January, the Celtics snagged the W with a 119-103 victory. Since that game, the C’s have improved on margins of victory and I like their chances tonight.
Jay’s Best Bet
The Bulls finally snapped their losing streak with a win over the Cavaliers. It’s been a downhill slide for a team trying to make a playoff push (currently 10th in the East) and they are without star Zach LaVine for multiple games. More pressure will be put on Vooch. It doesn’t help that Boston is cruising with a six-game winning streak and an 8-2 record in their last ten games. They are dealing with a lot of injuries/COVID issues as Robert Williams III and Evan Fournier are out. Jayson Tatum is probable with Kemba and Jaylen Brown as questionable. This game can take an interesting turn if one of those guys can’t play which is why I’m going to go with two prop bets for the Bulls tonight. They are:
- OVER on Patrick Williams assists at 1.5 (+118)
- OVER on Nikola Vucevic blocks at 0.5 (-120)
Jay’s NBA Picks Record: 16-18
Trent’s Best Bet
As everyone mentioned above, the injuries are a real wild card in this game. If Walker and Brown go, then the Celtics will likely win this game by 15+ points. So we have to narrow it down to what we know so I’m going to look at some Bulls props and see what I like. Vucevic is going to have to be the engine of the LaVine-less Bulls so I’m going to take his over on points. The offense will have to run through him. It’s listed at 23.5 (-114), so give me that for a unit. Boston isn’t overwhelming on defense as they rank 14th in defensive efficiency (109.8) so we should see the big man get plenty of opportunities to score and both teams average over 100 possessions per game so pace shouldn’t really play too much of a factor here. Let’s get it tonight! Hopefully the Bulls can keep it within 10!
