The offense came to life last night but was let down by both the bullpen and Zach Davies. Kris Bryant continued his hot start as he hit a grand slam. KB is now slashing .289/.375/.993 which are right around what he was hitting during his 2016 MVP season. Javy Baez was held out of the lineup for an injury but the team will look to turn it around today as they send Trevor Williams out to the mound today. Williams is 2-1 with a 4.66 ERA but has been a lot better at home than on the road. Although the Braves issued 7 walks as a team, the Cubs were not able to get the victory.
The Braves came out firing last night and bounced back well after being “no-hit” by Madison Bumgarner as they were able to edge out the Cubs as both Dansby Swanson and Freddie Freeman both went yard. Today they will send out Ian Anderson as he has been off to a nice start to the season going 1-0 with a 3.27 ERA and 23 strikeouts in 22 innings pitched. The 22 year old righty will look to build off of his last outing where he went 6.2 innings of shutout baseball against the Yankees.
Analysis & Best Bet
Given Williams’ struggles away from Wrigley Field, I really like the Braves in this one. Their offense has been hot as of late and Ronald Acuna Jr. is back in the lineup after injuring himself on some slides back when the Bravos were in town. My best bet will be the Braves on the F5 -0.5 (-125). I think we will see a great outing from Ian Anderson here and he should be able to pitch well against a Cubs team that likes to strikeout. The Cubs have also been streaky in terms of stringing consecutive games of good offensive output so tonight will most likely be a night where they will struggle at the dish.
