Analysis and Best Bet
It got heated in yesterday’s matchup as the benches cleared between these two NL Central foes. Chicago got the last laugh as they won, 3-2. The Cubs improved to 12-15 (5th in Central) while the Reds dropped to 12-14 (3rd in Central). With a win today, the Cubs can jump Cincy in the standings. This is the third and final game of the series with each team winning one.
The Cubs will send Trevor Williams (4.44 ERA) who has pitched better as of late. The Reds will counter with their ace in Tyler Mahle (1.75 ERA). Chicago will need their bats in this one.
Zach Davies (4.0 IP, four hits, one earned run, and three strikeouts) surprisingly did well for a change. Chicago’s bullpen picked him up for his short outing by pitching five shutout innings with eight combined strikeouts. Crazy Craig shut the door in the ninth after allowing two singles to start.
The pitching matchup in this one is solid. Williams is coming off a great start against a good Braves offense while Mahle has been lights out this season. I’m going with a no run 1st inning (-125) for my best bet. It will take some time for both offenses to get going in this one.
