First article for me so it is only right I let you guys know a little bit about me. My name is Hector and I just joined The Lynq! I am super excited to come aboard and to work with these guys. I am 24 years old and a huge Cubs fan so getting to write about them will be fun for me (I will do my best to be impartial and a realist with this team and not predict them to win every game).
The Cubs are back, and all worries about this team are gone (for now). They exploded for 14 runs last night, 11 of those coming in innings 7-9 which featured a Kris Bryant home run in each of those innings. Hamels vs. Scherzer was a let-down of a pitching matchup with both of them combining for 11 innings pitched with 7 walks issued and 5 runs surrendered.
Line – Cubs +131; Nationals -141
Spread – Cubs +1.5 (-170), Nationals (-1.5 +160)
O/U – 8.5
First Pitch – 6:15pm CT @ Nationals Park; Washington D.C.
Jon Lester takes the ball for the Cubs tonight and he has an impressive 3-1 record with a 1.16 ERA this season. No one I would rather take the ball after a good team performance than Big Jon. The Cubs bats looked great as they drew 7 walks and pounded out 18 hits. I expect Rizzo to be back in the lineup against the righty, Strasburg, assuming he is pain-free. It will be good to see if the Cubs can keep the bats hot.
Stephen Strasburg toes the rubber for the Nats and he sports a 3-3 record with a 3.63 ERA. Strasburg has struggled in night games this season. The Nationals are not that good after seeing last night’s game. The whole NL East just is not that great. Anyway, the Nats suffered a couple blows on the field; Victor Robles was hit on the wrist/forearm and was removed so he might be out for a day or two and also Justin Miller left the game with some arm problems so expect him to hit the IL at some point.
Analysis and Prediction
Cubs are #back and Lester is on the mound. I am rolling with the Cubs +131. Strasburg has logged 6 quality starts this season, so he has been pitching well. I think the under also hits today and we should see a good pitchers duel tonight. As a side bet, I would also venture to take the under for the F5 at 4.5 (-120). I think Lester hurls a gem tonight and he stays hot.
