Chicago White Sox vs Cleveland Indians: Preview & Prediction – 5/7/19

I was completely wrong about yesterday’s game as the Sox got probably the best outing from Ivan Nova of the year, and they were able to mash Trevor Bauer in game one of the series. Chicago won the game 9-1 thanks to the bat of Yoan Moncada, who collected 4 RBI’s on 2 hits, including a BOMB onto the Concourse at Progressive Field in the top of the 1st.

Moneyline – CLE -135, CWS +125

Runline – CLE -1.5 (+140), CWS +1.5 (-160)

Over/Under – 8.5 (-110)

First Pitch – 5:10 CT at Progressive Field, Cleveland, Ohio

Chicago White Sox

Lucas Giolito gets the nod for the Southsiders in this matchup as he is making his second outing since coming back from the hamstring injury back on April 17th. Giolito was decent his last time out. He lasted 5 innings, allowing 3 earned runs on 7 hits and 2 walks. He has amassed 30 K’s over 23.2 innings this season, posting a 1.44 WHIP. Against current Cleveland players, Lucas holds them to a .200 batting average (5-25) and only 1 longball (Jose Ramirez). James McCann has been a bright spot over the last four games, hitting .357 (5-14) and hitting two of his four homeruns this year during this span. The lineups have not been released for tonight’s game, but I hope he is in the lineup.

Cleveland Indians

The Indians send Jefry Rodriguez to the mound for Tuesday evening’s game. His 0-1 record is accompanied by a WHIP of 0.79 and an ERA of 2.13. But before we get all excited by that, he has only made 2 appearances in the 2019 campaign, stretching 12.2 innings over his 2 starts. Not too mention, they were against the Marlins and the Royals. I might have a Cy Young caliber year if I was pitching against the teams he gets lined up with. Offensively, Cleveland ran up double-digit hits yesterday with 10. But they only were able to score one run though, on a Jason Kipnis single to right field in the 5th. My guy Kipnis (also an Arizona State Grad) is 1-3 lifetime against Giolito.

Analysis & Prediction

It’s not often when I throw out a chalk pick like yesterday and it loses. The Indians were awful hitting the ball when they had anyone on base, but hey – that’s the game of baseball and we’re back today to get after it again. If you played every one of my White Sox plays this year, you’d be down only -.18 units ($18 for a $100 bettor). Let’s string a few W’s together here and start accumulating some wealth. Alright… here it is – take the Indians ML (-135) in this matchup and on the RL1.5 (+140) – both 1 unit plays. I love Cleveland in this matchup. Chief Wahoo’s (RIP) crew is 28-13 since 2017 against the White Sox. Lucas Giolito has been anything but consistent this season and I expect Francisco Lindor, Jo-Ram, and co. to get after our beloved White Sox in this one. Definitely not a win or go home game, but the Indians need to start stringing together some dubs if they want to hang around the Central division.

Trent’s White Sox Free Pick Record

4-4 (-.18 Units). A $100 bettor would be down $18 this season.
