Chicago White Sox vs Detroit Tigers: Preview & Prediction – 9/21/19

By: Trent Pruitt

Last night’s White Sox bet cashed easy as they beat down the Tigers at Comerica by a score of 10-1. Eloy Jimenez finished a double shy of the cycle as the White Sox put on a hitting clinic against Jordan Zimmerman and Co., collecting 19 hits. We’re back at it again today as it’s #WinnersOnlySaturday, my favorite day of the week.

Money Line: CWS -123, DET +113

Run Line: CWS -1.5 (+120), DET +1.5 (-140)

Over/Under: 9.5 (O -105, U -115)

First Pitch: 5:10 CST, Comerica Park, Detroit, MI

Chicago White Sox

Ivan Nova gets the start for Rick Renteria’s squad tonight. His recent hot streak has cooled off as he’s given up 14 runs over his last three starts. Nova’s last start was against the Mariners, where he gave up 5 runs over 3.1 innings. He’ll look to get it back on track tonight but the Tigers hit .263 against him. The Sox offense has been cooking recently. They’ve scored the 4th most runs in September (101).

Detroit Tigers

The rookie, Tyler Alexander gets the nod for the Tigers Saturday evening. This will be the third time in his young career that the lefty gets paired up against the Sox. He made his big league debut against them on July 3rd, allowing 2 earned runs over 5.0 innings. Rolling with the head to head stats, he hasn’t been great against the southsiders as he only holds them to a .333 batting average (14-42). Ryan Cordell has his number as he’s 2-4 with 2 bombs. Overall on the season he enters the matchup at 1-3 with a 4.87 ERA. I think, similarly to our rookie, Cease, Alexander is going to be a solid piece of the rotation for Detroit moving forward. This is a throwaway season for the Tigers and they’re just looking for him to go out and get some experience. I’m excited to see how the lefty turns out over the years.

Analysis & Prediction

Take the Over tonight. -105 is a good price and both of these teams have respectable numbers against their opposing pitchers. The Sox have hit lefties really well so they will definitely hold up their end of the bargain. I do not want to back the Sox since Nova has been inconsistent recently.
