Chicago White Sox vs. Oakland Athletics: Analysis & Best Bets – 9/29/20

OAKLAND, CA - SEPTEMBER 19: Oakland Athletics pitcher Jesus Luzardo (70) pitches against the San Francisco Giants Kevin Gausman in the inning at the Coliseum in Oakland, Calif., on Saturday, Sept. 19, 2020. (Karl Mondon/Bay Area News Group)

The only thing better than matinee baseball is playoff matinee baseball! The 7th seeded White Sox travel to Oakland to take on the 2nd seeded A’s for a three-game series. Lucas Giolito has been spectacular this season and he’ll get the start for the Southsiders while Bob Melvin opts for the young lefty, Jesus Luzardo. Strap it in folks, playoff baseball is here!

Money Line: CWS -117, OAK +107

Run Line: CWS -1.5 (+130), OAK +1.5 (-150)

Total: 7.5 (O -105, U -115)

First Pitch: 2:00 CST, RingCentral Coliseum, Oakland, CA

Jack’s Analysis & Best Bet

For my best bet in Game One between the Chicago White Sox and Oakland Athletics, I am going to go with the U7.5 runs (-115). The A’s offense has been scuffling lately, only producing an average of 2.8 runs per game. The pitching has been a staple to the success for the A’s this season, and I expect the same to happen in this game with Luzardo on the bump. In his 10 starts this season, the A’s have hit the under in seven of the games started by the young southpaw. Next, we have potential AL Cy Young candidate, Lucas Giolito on the mound for the White Sox. Giolito also has seen the under hit in quite a few games pitched this season. Of the 12 games started behind Giolito, the White Sox have a 4-8 record on the over/under. The White Sox offense has been sputtering as well, with the Pale Hose offense only generating 3.8 runs of offense in their last five games. The Coliseum is a pitcher’s paradise, I expect Tuesday afternoon to a game where runs will be at a premium.

Trent’s Analysis & Best Bet

If you haven’t heard by now, the White Sox are 14-0 against left-handed starting pitchers and they draw a lefty in the opener this afternoon. That’s Jesus Luzardo who is a promising youngster that’s going to be a staple in Oakland’s rotation for the a while. Similar to Jack, I like runs to be at a premium so I will be going back to my second favorite bet in baseball, the total hits, runs, and errors in the game. The line is 25 combined H + R + E (-110) for the two squads and I’m rolling with the under for a unit.

I think Lucas Giolito is going to absolutely deal this afternoon as well. Rick will manage the bullpen correctly, as he failed to do down the stretch, and this will be a low scoring affair.
