The White Sox will turn to rookie Dane Dunning to avoid the two-game sweep at the hands of the dreadful Pittsburgh Pirates on Wednesday night. The Buccos will also opt for a rookie as well, in JT Brubaker. The righty is 1-0 on the season with a 3.96 ERA.
Money Line: CWS -157, PIT +145
Run Line: CWS -1.5 (-105), PIT +1.5 (-115)
Total: 9 (O -104, U -116)
First Pitch: 6:05 CST, PNC Park, Pittsburgh, PA
Final Analysis & Best Bet
Brubaker is a 26-year-old right handed out of Akron who relies on a slider (33.7%), sinker (33.5%), four seamer (14.5%), and curve (13.8%). He picked up his first win last time out, giving up only one run over 5.0 IP to the Cubs.
As for Dane, he was .1 IP away from picking up his first win as a big leaguer. He went 4.2 IP against the Royals, allowing three earned on five hits and four walks. He has a 2.80 FIP compared to his 3.86 ERA and a WHIP of 1.14. I really liked Dane to slide into the third spot of the rotation as the season carries on and the Sox push for a division title.
Alright, so my best bet for this game is the Sox on the money line (-157) for a unit. Ultimately, I expect the Southsiders to come out and seek revenge for last night’s sloppy loss. The sticks may struggle early on against Brubaker but after a couple of times through and as this game stretches out, they’ll get their runs. Chicago needs this win to stay in a tight A.L. Central race. Also, I’m riding the under on 4.5 runs in the first five innings (-110) for half of a unit. Dane Dunning is going to be locked in tonight and I think the Sox offense will struggle against the sinkerballer early on.
