Once Blue Jay Rightfielder Randal Grichuk hit a 3-run bomb in the first, there was no turning back for the Birds from the North. The Sox dropped game one of the series by a score of 4-3. Chicago remains in “The 6” for game two of the series this afternoon.

Chicago White Sox
The boys are in for a long one today, I think. We send my least favorite pitcher on the staff, Ivan Nova to the bump to take on this terrible Blue Jays offense. Despite my hatred for Nova, he pitched well last time out, going 7 innings allowing only 1 earned run while striking out 5 Indians. Pssst – they have a terrible offense too, so don’t think you’re good Ivan. Nova carries an ERA north of 7. In comparison to the geographic layout of North America, if a great ERA landed you in the U.S., a middle of the road ERA was the border with Canada, well, Nova’s ERA would be chilling up by Ellesmere Island (the islands bordering Greenland).
I’m going to take as many chances as I can to make Canadian references throughout this series and maybe I’ll teach you a geography lesson while I’m at it, eh?
Toronto Blue Jays
The Jays are sending stud pitcher, Marcus Stroman to the mound today. His 2.96 ERA would land him just south of the border in our comparison above. Despite being spectacular this season, he only has a 1-5 record to show for it. His WHIP is 1.29 and he owns a K/BB ratio of 2.28. The White Sox struggle against Stroman, only posting a .200 batting average. Jose Abreu and Tim Anderson have the lone HR’s over the 75 at-bats the White Sox have vs Stro. As I was saying yesterday, The Blue Jays have a bad offense – they rank in the bottom 5 of all major categories.
Analysis & Prediction
This game is all about Stroman – the guy is an ace that is wasting away in Toronto. There were rumors that the Jays were selling and maybe the Sox could swoop in and grab him, but that never came to fruition. I have a monster to announce right here – take the under for 2 units. The Blue Jays offense is terrible – scoring 5 runs over 4 games. The Sox will struggle vs Stroman as well. One fun pick I would throw out there (doesn’t go towards my record), throw a few Canadian Dollars on Vlad Jr. hitting his first homerun today – that’ll be good for a +450 payout.
Trent’s White Sox Free Pick Record
5-7 (-1.51 Units). A $100 bettor would be down $151 this season.
