The Chicago Cubs come into the week riding high with a record of (24-14) and hold a 2.5 game lead in the NL Central. They are flying high, having won 12 of their last 14 and also going over a month (April 5th-7th) without losing a series. Coming off a week where they took 3 of 4 from the lowly Miami Marlins and 2 of 3 from the much tougher Milwaukee Brewers they look to continue their winning wins on the road this week.
The Cubs play 6 games on the road this week, including 3 in Cincinnati (18-23) and 3 in Washington (16-24). The Cubs are only 9-8 on the road this season but 6 of those losses were during their awful start to the year. The Cubs are riding high and should look to keep up the pace against 2 sub .500 teams.
The Cubs will throw Kyle Hendricks, Yu Darvish and Jose Quintana in Cincinnati and of the three, Darvish has the most to prove here considering his inconsistency and not going deep in games. Kyle Hendricks has yet to win on the road this season in 3 starts, failing to go more than 5 innings in each. In Washington, the Cubs will throw Cole Hamels, Jon Lester, and Kyle Hendricks.
The Cubs should realistically finish this week 4-2, 3-3 would be slightly disappointing against two weak teams. The Cubs have a weakened bullpen with the injury to closer, Pedro Strop, hopefully, the starting pitching continues to meet and exceed expectations. The last thing Chicago wants is an overused bullpen.
