Indiana Hoosiers (12-13, 7-11)
On Tuesday, I watched the Baylor/WV game, the Illinois/ Michigan game, the Purdue/Wisconsin game, and the IU/Michigan State game. The Baylor, Illinois and Purdue wins were excellent games that were fun to watch. The Indiana vs Michigan State game that I was flipping back and forth from the Illinois game was atrocious. In a virtual “loser leaves town” game that both teams had to win, it looked like neither team wanted to win, even the announcers were saying that neither of those teams deserved to be in the NCAA tournament with that performance and I would agree. IU only managed to put up 58 points and lost to the Spartans to bring their losing streak to 4 and putting their tournament chances on life support. The Hoosiers must win this game and probably at least 2 more games to get their names back even in the conversation to get into the Big Dance.
Purdue Boilermakers (17-8, 12-6)
Purdue is starting to peak at the right time as they have now won 4 consecutive games including a hard fought victory over Wisconsin on Tuesday. This young group of Boilers has improved beyond anything most Boilermaker fans could have hoped for and they have set themselves up to win and secure the final double bye spot in the Big 10 tournament. Against Wisconsin, it was the Zach Edey show for Purdue as the 7-4 Canadian had a career high 21 points and 7 rebounds. When the outside shooting wasn’t working for Purdue, they started to feed the rock to Edey and the freshman took full advantage of the size mismatch and paved the way to victory for the Boilermakers. If Purdue can win this game they should be locked at bare minimum into at least a 5th seed at worst in the NCAA tournament, but if they can win a game or 2, I think the Boilers have a good shot at sneaking up to the 3rd seed line.
As most Purdue fans would like to remind Indiana fans (myself included) Purdue has won 8 straight matchups in this series with Indiana. They have also won 11 of the last 12 so Purdue has been dominant as of late in this rivalry. The Boilers have not lost in West Lafayette to IU since my first Purdue-IU game in 2013 my freshman year at Purdue. Purdue is on fire as of late winning 9 of their last 10 overall and compiling an impressive 7-2-1 ATS record in that span. Conversely, Indiana has gone 3-7 in their last 10 games with a 2-7-1 ATS record in that same span. I think Purdue will win this easily but with the Hoosiers being desperate they might be able to keep it within 6 points. I like Purdue ML if you can find a good value, the over might be a good play, a tease with Purdue and the over is a good play but we are going to have a little fun with my best bet. Tease Purdue down to -1.5 and combine it with Illinois teased up to +8.
