In their first game back, Liverpool played to a surprising 0-0 draw with Everton on Sunday. Although currently up 20 points on 2nd place Man. City, the Reds have won only 2 of their last 7 games in all competitions and seem to come back to earth. Sure, they will most likely win the EPL title, but they do not look as dominant as they did earlier in the campaign. The offense has been struggling mightily as they have not scored a goal in 3 of their last 5 games. Their defense has really been the only thing that has been saving them. Virgil Van Dijk is arguably the best defender in the world which has helped the squad out tremendously. Jurgen Klopp will look to have the boys ready to play as they will get their first match at home. Mo Salah did sit out in the first game back from the restart but look for the Egyptian star to be back in the starting 11.
The Eagles come into this match with 42 points which is good enough to place them at 9th in the table. Crystal Palace has won their last 4 matches going back to February 22nd. This will be the Eagles’ 2nd game back from the restart and they were able to pick up 3 points on the road with a 2-0 win against Bournemouth. Jordan Ayew has been the playmaker for Crystal Palace as he leads his squad with 9 goals. Gary Cahill will be on the last line of defense before the keeper. Cahill is a veteran who has good tackling and technical ability and has helped limit the scoring of the Crystal Palace opponents.
Prediction and Analysis
Crystal Palace is the only team to beat Liverpool managed by Jurgen Klopp more than once at Anfield so the Eagles should be able to give Liverpool a run for their money. With the way Liverpool has been playing as of late combined with the ability for Crystal Palace to give Liverpool a good game, I will be taking the under of 2.5, 3 goals (-105) for this match. As noted above, Crystal Palace is on a 4 game winning streak and the notable thing is that those have all been clean sheets for the Eagles which gives them some momentum coming into this match. Allison (Liverpool) and Vicente Guaita (Crystal Palace) both have 11 and 10 clean sheets which is ranked tied for 1st and tied for 6th, respectively. This, along with both strong defenses, should solidify the under of 2.5, 3 goals.
