Tottenham Hotspurs (WWWWW)
Jose Mourinho this season has done a great job of implementing his playstyle effectively amongst his squad. When you see Spurs play, they look fearless, playing aggressive defensively and breaking with pace on counter-attacks. The Spurs 1-1 draw against Crystal Palace on Sunday has left Tottenham as joint leaders of the premier league table, ahead of Liverpool by goal differential. The Hotspurs are unbeaten in their last nine away Premier League games. Heung-Min Son is scoring goals in bunches in the early goings of this season, notching 10 goals, which is more than Arsenal have scored this Premier League campaign.
Tottenham will be looking for Mourinho to continue his ability to succeed in league competitions versus the Premier Leagues’ top 6 clubs. Mourinho has also lost to Klopp’s squad in his last 5 away fixtures. Tottenham have claimed 70 points under Jose Mourinho – only Manchester City (75) and Liverpool (90) have better records since he joined Spurs. Son has scored 10, and Kane has scored 9 goals; This electric attacking duo has combined for 19 of Tottenham’s 24 Premier League goals this season. Kane has scored in four games at Anfield but has never ended on the winning side, drawing two and losing two.
Once again, Liverpool has found itself injury-riddled ahead of a challenging slate of matches. Klopp is expected to pair Fabinho with Jordan Henderson in the center-back position if Joel Matip is not fit to play. Liverpool has lost four league fixtures in 2020, the same amount as in 2018 and 2019 combined. The Reds have won all six home league games this season by an aggregate score of 18-6 and scored at least twice in each fixture. Shockingly Sadio Mane hasn’t scored a goal for Liverpool in 7 consecutive matches.
Liverpool has only lost one of their past 15 Premier League meetings against Tottenham Hotspur. “The style of play, I see a lot of similarities with us, to be honest, in the way they set it up, the way they build-up,” said Klopp. Jurgen Klopp also voiced concern about Tottenham’s ability to hold results in their favor through tough defensive play. I’m expecting Mohamed Salah and Diego Jota to be influential components toward a Liverpool victory on Wednesday afternoon. The result of this match will provide the public a better understanding of whether Tottenham is ready to compete with Liverpool for the title this season.
Analysis and Pick
Neither team will want to be caught out and will be patient in finding their opportunities. I’m expecting each team’s respective attacking players to get after the poor backlines of both these title-contending teams. My best bets are Tottenham +1 (+105) and Over 2.5 (-150)
