Lokomotiv Moscow at Atletico Madrid Preview, Picks, and Prediction – 11/25/20

By: Trent Pruitt (@trentbets

Lokomotiv still has an outside chance to go through to the round of sixteen but it’ll definitely be an uphill climb. Bayern Munich will clearly win Group A (barring major collapse) which leaves these two teams fighting for the second spot! Atletico Madrid is 1-1-1 with four points so far in the new UCL campaign while Lokomotiv is 0-2-1 with two points. Let’s dive into this one, analyze each side’s current form and see if we can make a winning prediction!

Money Line: ATM -457, FCLM +1100, DRAW +500

Spread: ATM -1.75 (-110)

Total: 2.75 (O -110, U -110)

Kickoff: 3:00 ET, Wanda Metropolitano Stadium, Madrid, ESP

Lokomotiv Moscow

Lokomotiv picked up a 1-0 win over Arsenal (Russian) thanks to a penalty kick from Anton Mianchuk in the 72’. They currently reside in the 7th position in the Russian Premier League with 24 points thanks to a 7-3-5 record. Their goal differential in league play is zero as they’ve netted 16 goals and allowed 16. Miranchuk is tied as the leading scorer with Fedor Smolov and they both have three goals. As for Champions League action, they are 0-2-1 thus far with draws against Salzburg and Atletico. They drew 1-1 against Atletico Madrid back on November 3rd and the lone goal came from a Miranchuk penalty, once again.

Atletico Madrid

Madrid enters off of a huge 1-0 win over Barcelona this past weekend! It was Yannick Carrasco with a 45+3’ goal and that was enough for them to get it done. They’re 7-3-1 over their last eleven matches in all competitions six of their last ten have been clean sheets. As for league

play, Madrid is currently ranked second in La Liga with 20 points thanks to a 6-2-0 record. Believe it or not, they have a goal differential of +16 thanks to scoring 18 goals and allowing just two through eight matches – a pretty incredible start.

As for individual statistics, it’s a duel effort of Joao Felix and Luis Suarez doing the damage up front. They both have five goals in the 2nd best offense in La Liga. Marcos Llorente has three tallies and the aforementioned Carrasco has buried a pair of goals this season. Jan Oblak will be the goalkeeper and he’s racked up six clean sheets in eight opportunities in La Liga play but has yet to record one in the Champions League this season. His closest opportunity was when Atletico faced Lokomotiv and the only goal came via PK.

Final Analysis & Best Bet

I’ll pick up right where I left off. Atletico’s defense is phenomenal and has been for years. I don’t think Lokomotiv is going to score on Wednesday. They’re going up against one of the best defensive units and keepers in Europe and to be honest, they don’t boast a very powerful offense themselves. They’ve only netted 16 goals in 15 games in the Russian Premier League and with the step up in competition, I don’t expect much from them here.

On the flip side, with the addition of Luis Suarez, this team is a threat to make a run at a Champions League Title! And although he won’t be playing due to COVID, I still think this offense will rack up a few tallies here. Give me Atletico Madrid to cover the -1.75 (-110) spread here! I love the way their offense has been firing so I could easily see this landing at 3-0 or maybe we fall back on a 2-0 win and cash half of our ticket! ¡Buena Suerte!
