Manchester City (WWWDL)
Manchester City is one of the many enigmatic teams in Europe this season. While many still favor them to win the league that confidence is fading after the loss to Tottenham this week. However, their quality is still on display as they’ve beaten every team in the Champions League group and are still one of the favorites in that competition as well. They’re so talented but the inability to string together consistent performances is crippling and could spell their doom yet again.
I’ve spoken at length multiple times about Olympiacos and their strategy of winning football games. They take stars past their prime and employ them to sell jerseys and beat up on the less talented players around Greece and it works for the most part. However, it doesn’t do as much good when translating to international success. We’re talking the best teams on the planet in the CL and these older guys, apparently Matthieu Valbuena aside, can’t keep up. It’s a fun team to watch but not one that can win.
Analysis and Pick
The initial meeting between these teams resulted in a 3-0 victory for Manchester City and though I want to see the City lineup card first, I believe this game is cruising toward a similar scoreline. I’m avoiding the total at three but I do like the line at a goal and a half. Olympiacos is struggling to score and with City looking to get the ball rolling in the right direction again I expect them to pick up a convincing victory. Take Manchester City to cover the spread.
