The lowly Miami Marlins (9-24) make their way to Wrigley Field Monday night at 7:05 PM in the first game of a 4-game series against The Cubs (19-12). The Cubs are heavy favorites at -260 and the over/under is 7. The Cubs will throw veteran southpaw Cole Hamels (3-0, 3.19 ERA). The Marlins will send youngster Sandy Alcantara (1-3, 4.86 ERA).
The Cubs come in winners of 7 straight and fresh off a weekend sweep of the rival St. Louis Cardinals. The Marlins have a league worst run differential -73 and the Cubs own the majors best differential of +51. This could be a long series for a Miami team still trying to find their way. A veteran like Hamels will feast on this lineup as he did in his last start against them on April 17th in Miami, where he went 7 innings, striking out 8 and allowing 0 runs. Alcantara was roughed up in that same game giving up 5 earned runs in 6 innings.
Players to Watch:
Anthony Rizzo: Over his last 7 games Rizzo is en fuego, he’s hitting .350 with 3 HR, and 7 RBIs.
Rosell Herrera: The young outfielder has been one of the lone bright spots over this tough stretch. He’s hitting .333 over his last 4 games with 4 RBI.
The Cubs look for their 8th straight win while the Marlins have just 9 wins on the season. Everything points to a Cubs blowout victory and Cole Hamels possibly matching Kyle Hendricks, who threw a 2-hit shutout last Friday against the Cardinals. Rizzo homers and Hamels goes at least 6 and if the score isn’t too lopsided maybe more. I’m taking the over, might be a tough one to get because I truly don’t believe the Marlins will score. Cubs and the over.
Score: Cubs 8 Marlins 0, over 7
