Penn State @ Minnesota Preview
Spread: Minnesota (-3); Over/Under: 145
8 PM Central – Williams Arena- Minneapolis, MN
Minnesota (9-7, 3-3): Minnesota is a perfect 2-faced team. They are 0-5 on the road including 0-3 in Big 10 play including losses at Purdue, MSU, and Iowa. However, the Golden Gophers know how to protect their house (or barn). They are 8-1 overall at home including 3-0 in conference play, with 2 extremely impressive wins over Ohio State and Michigan by an average margin of victory of 10 points. The Gophers are led by reigning Co-Big 10 player of the week Daniel Oturu, who is averaging a double-double so far on the year with 19.9 points per game and 11.9 rebounds per game.
Penn State (12-4, 2-3): Penn State has come out of the gates with one of their best records in recent years. They had a really nice start to Big 10 play, outside of a blowout to Ohio State in the conference opener; they had back-to-back resume building wins against Maryland & Iowa. Unfortunately, the Nittany Lions have dropped their last 2 including only putting up 49 points at home to Wisconsin. Penn State is led by their senior guard Lamar Stevens, who has been the heart and soul of this team for 4 years. He is coming in averaging 16.3 points a game. They are a relatively middle of the pack team statistically offensively and defensively ranking 47th and 35th respectively in the country.
Prediction: Penn State is on a little bit of a slide and the Gophers have been nearly unbeatable at home. I believe that Oturu is going to have another big game and have his way in the paint with some big dunks that will really get the Barn rocking. Minnesota is 12-2 in their last 14 home games against Penn State and I expect them to pick up another win Wednesday night. I do think it will be close, but I think Minnesota can do enough to cover. Take Minnesota (-3)
