Spread: Eagles (-14)
Kickoff: 1:00 EST, Lincoln Financial Field, Philadelphia PA
This is a matchup of two teams heading in opposite directions. The Eagles are coming off a big win on the road in Green Bay while the Jets are looking to get their first win of the season. Could this be a get-well game for the Eagles?
New York Jets
The Jets are in trouble. Not only are they 0-3, but the Bills are 3-1 and the Patriots are 4-0. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out that the Jets need to start winning or their season will be lost. The defense hasn’t been terrible, sitting at 20th in the league right now allowing 375 ypg, but the offense is another story. The offense has sorely missed Sam Darnold and Quincy Enunwa, firing on all cylinders to the tune of a measly 196 ypg… that’s sarcasm. Pathetic is the only way to put it. If anyone is curious why backup quarterbacks are so important, they need not look farther than the NYJ. Until they get Darnold back it is very hard to take this team seriously, and I haven’t even mentioned the defensive injuries to CJ Mosely and Quinenn Williams…
The Eagles are trending in the right direction. I was on them last week going in to Lambeau for the sole reason that I thought their offense was better than what they had shown. Their offense and defense have been below average so far, but they are going up against a Jets team that does not pose a threat on either side of the ball. The Eagles defense only gives up 62 ypg on the ground. This plays right into the game plan. I’m looking for the Eagles to force the Jets to throw the ball, as they won’t be able to run against this stout front. Against any other team id be worried, but the Jets have no passing game at the moment. Interestingly enough, the Eagles have the worst pass defense in the NFL, but this might be a get-well game. Luke Falk has not shown any ability to throw the ball and Adam Gase has not looked willing to let him loose.
Analysis and Prediction
This game is straightforward to me. The Eagles have their defensive issues, but the Jets are not a team that can take advantage of that. Not only that, but the Jets defense is missing some key players. I see the Eagles being able to do whatever they want on both sides of the ball. Look for Wentz to have a big game and the Eagles defense to take advantage of the shorthanded Jets. This will not be pretty. Gimme the Eagles -14!
