King Felix isn’t really the king anymore. He is making only his 10th start on the season and is on pace to have his worst ERA of his career. Let’s see if he can rebound against a team he has faced a lot in his career.

Money Line- Seattle Mariners +163, Texas Rangers -173

Run Line- Seattle Mariners +1.5 (-125), Texas Rangers -1.5 (+105)

Over/Under- 10 (O -105, U -115)

First Pitch- 7:05 p.m. CST. Globe Life Park in Arlington, Arlington, Texas

Seattle Mariners

The Mariners have had trouble facing off against the Rangers this season. They are losing the season series so far with a 6-9 record against them. Being on the road, that record probably won’t get better as the Mariners are only 27-38 on the road. Also bad for the Mariners is that the Rangers are 38-27 at home this year.

Felix Hernandez made his first start in over three months last week against the Blue Jays. For his first start back, it didn’t go too poorly. He went five and two third innings letting up only two earned over three hits.

In his career against the Rangers, Hernandez has not always been stellar. He has faced off against them 57 times going 19-25 and currently had an ERA of 4.18 against them. However, a lot of those starts came when the Rangers were a powerhouse that should have won a few World Series’. Against the current Rangers hitters, Hernandez is having a little more success. The Rangers hitters slash line against Hernandez is .243/.325/.373 with an OPS of .698 over 391 AB’s.

Texas Rangers

Once in the mix for the AL Wild Card, the Rangers have fallen hard in the second half of the season. Hindsight is 20/20, but it is looking like the Rangers should have traded some key pieces at the deadline. One of those key pieces is Thursday’s starter, Lance Lynn. Lynn has a team second best 3.85 ERA and a team best 14 wins on the year. However, Lynn has been struggling in his last few games. His last start out he got shelled by the White Sox for 11 hits and 7 runs. Before that start, he had a rough start against another AL Central team with the Twins. He went only five innings while giving up three earned runs. Lynn is looking to rebound against a Mariners team he has pitched well against this year. In his three starts against them this season, Lynn has pitched 20 innings while giving up six total earned runs. He also has 30 strikeouts over those three games. He has yet to give up a homerun to any Mariner hitter and has in general has been great against them.

Analysis and Prediction

It is always sad to see the decline of a great player. That is what we are seeing with Felix Hernandez. I don’t trust him in this game so take the Rangers on the run line at +105. 2
