The Cardinals take on the Cubs at 3:05 pm at Wrigley Field. The Cubs are favorites -127 and the over/under is 9. The Cubs will throw Yu Darvish (2-3, 5.02 ERA), making his first career start against the Cardinals. The Cards will counter with Michael Wacha (2-0,4.78 ERA). Wacha faced the Cubs twice in 2018 allowing 9 earned runs in 9.1 innings.
The Cardinals are surprisingly leading the NL Central division but the Cubs have been the hottest team in the NL as of late. The Cubs are on a 5-game winning streak and are coming off back to back shutouts. Darvish is coming off wins in his last 2 starts, allowing 5 earned runs over 11 innings, while striking out 12. If he can find any kind of consistency this rotation could be good enough to be the class of the NL. The Cardinals have gone 8-8 on the road this season. They are coming off two straight losses, including being outclassed by Kyle Hendricks who needed only 81 pitches in a 2-hit shutout Friday afternoon.
Players to Watch:
Anthony Rizzo: Rizzo hit a 3-run homer Friday in a Cubs 4-0 victory and might as well pay rent in Michael Wachas’ head as he’s hitting .476 lifetime in 42 at bats with 3 HR against him.
Marcell Ozuna: Ozuna is the Cardinals most dangerous hitter this season, mashing 10 HR and driving in 29. He’s also 1 for 3 lifetime against Darvish.
The Cubs look to win another series and have a chance to take over first place Sunday, as they enter the game 1.5 games back. Darvish has had 2 encouraging starts in a row and if he can get the walks under control, he should have himself another nice outing. Wacha hasn’t had good success against the Cubs are coming off two straight shut-outs. Look for Rizzo to have a huge day and Darvish to have another acceptable outing, take the Cubs and the over.
Score: Cubs 8 Cardinals 2, over 9
