St. Louis vs. Pittsburgh Preview & Prediction – 4-1-19

STL +113, PIT -123, O/U 8 -110

As the MLB Opening Weekend comes to a close, we get matinee baseball on Monday as the Cardinals travel to Pittsburgh to begin a series against the Pirates.

St. Louis was predicted by many to win that tough NL Central. They just finished a 4-game set against the Brewers in which they went 1-3. New addition Paul Goldschmidt jacked 4 homeruns during the series as Paul DeJong and Matt Carpenter also had solid weekends at the dish. The Cards lost Sunday due to a bullpen meltdown. Starter, Michael Wacha threw 6 innings giving up only one run before Alex Reyes, Andrew Miller, and Jordan Hicks combined to give up 4 runs over the final 2 innings. Last Year’s MVP, Christian Yelich hit a 2-run game-winning double in the 9th to win the game 5-4. The Cardinals send veteran Adam Wainwright to the mound Monday afternoon. Wainwright has allowed 33 hits in 122 at-bats against the current Pirates roster. He went 2-4 last season after only starting 8 games.

Pittsburgh sends Chris Archer to the bump on Monday to take on the visiting Cardinals. Archer went 3-3 with a 4.30 ERA with the Buccos last season after coming over from Tampa Bay. The Pirates opened up on the road against the Reds this past weekend, splitting 1-1 after Saturday’s game was rained out. Sunday’s win was a 5-0 game as they received great efforts from the whole lineup – four different players had rbi’s including the pitcher, Trevor Williams who had a pair.

My analysis says that I’m going to roll with a lot of runs being scored in this one. Both offenses can do some damage and I expect both of these pitchers to struggle a little bit, Wainwright especially. Take the Over in this one.
