Texas Rangers vs Kansas City Royals: Preview & Prediction – 5/15/19

This is a battle of two bad teams. The question is, which is worse? The Royals. The Royals are worse. But the Royals are at home, so this game is anyone’s one to win. Texas will be trying to win to stay out of the cellar of the AL West. They are currently battling with the A’s for the dishonor, so they will be trying hard to win.

Money Line – Texas Rangers -130, Kansas City Royals +120

Run Line – Texas Rangers -1.5 (+130), Kansas City Royals +1.5 (-150)

Over/Under – 9.5 (O -110, U -110)

First Pitch – 8:15 p.m. CST Kauffman Stadium, Kansas City, Missouri

Texas Rangers

Currently enduring a long road trip, the Rangers can’t wait to get back to Arlington. After splitting a two-game set in Pittsburgh, the Rangers got swept by interstate and division rivals, the Houston Astros in a four-game set. The good news for Rangers fans is that over the last five games when they were favorites, they have won three of them. They do head into Kansas City as favorites in this game. A bonus is that they have their best pitcher on the mound in Mike Minor. The left-handed starter, Minor has thrown 53.2 innings this year while only letting up 16 runs. Minor also faces a Royals team that does not hit left-handed pitchers well. They have a team average of .239 against lefties. Minor will be a nice piece to trade at the deadline, but until then, he is solid to bet on.

Kansas City Rangers

While the Rangers have their ace on the mound, the Royals do not. Jorge Lopez gets the start, and his 6.07 ERA leaves a lot to be desired. Also, the number of homeruns, hits and walks he gives up leaves a lot to be desired. Oh, and the Rangers crush right-handed starters. A slash line of .256/.336/.463 does not look good for Lopez. The best hope for the Royals is that the Rangers suck on the road. A 5-14 record on the road for the Rangers is just plain bad. But it’s not like the Royals are that good at home. They are 9-13 at home.

Analysis and Prediction

The Rangers are going to win this game. However, I wouldn’t take the run line. I really like the under at -110. In games the Minor has started, the under has hit every time besides two starts. I also like the Rangers at -1.5 on the run line. They should be able to win this game by more than two runs.
