Another awful move for a Bears team having possibly the worst off-season in the NFL. Fan favorite, return man specialist, and viral Tik Tok maker Cordarrelle Patterson has reached an agreement with the Atlanta Falcons on a one-year deal (worth $3 million). This comes after a lengthy waiting period for Patterson. He dropped many tweets over the course of the off-season expressing his desire to remain a Bear. Patterson’s last tweet? “I’m going to miss my boys in Chicago.” We are going to miss you, Cordarrelle.
Cordarrelle has eight career kickoff returns, tied for the most in NFL history. The achievements for Patterson are off the charts. He’s a four-time Pro Bowler, four-time first-team All-Pro, and two-time second-team All-Pro. Last season, Patterson led the NFC in kick return average (29.1) and kick return yards (1,017 yards). The most dangerous aspect of his game is returning kicks but we saw him as a running back and wide receiver over the course of two seasons with the Bears.
It was always the energy brought by Cordarrelle that made him a great part of the team. He was a joy to watch on and off the field. Chicago will be left with a big hole in their return game, an area they have exceled in with Patterson. Still ways to go in the off-season, Ryan Pace has a lot of work to do in order to fix this roster. The next stop is the draft. It has been rough to watch this off-season play out in the Windy City. Another great player is gone.
