Even though Liverpool won the EPL with seven matches to go, there is still a lot of exciting soccer left to be played. The top four is still yet to be decided as there are only 10 points separating fourth place Chelsea from 11th place Everton. Tottenham and Sheffield United both sit toward the bottom of that 4-11 range, so a loss for either team can spell the end of their dim top four hopes.
Money Line: Tottenham Hotspur -125, Sheffield United +355 (Draw: +255)
Spread: Tottenham Hotspur -0.5 (-125), Sheffield United +0.5 (+105)
Total: 2, 2.5 (O -120, U -EVEN)
Kickoff: 12:00 p.m. Bramall Lane, Sheffield, South Yorkshire, England
In Tottenham’s first two matches back from the corona break they have been playing similar to the way they were playing all season. That’s not a good thing. The blew a perfect chance to take three points against Manchester United, even though the refs did help United out in that game. Then it took a gift of a goal to finally gain the lead on the lowly West Ham Hammers before Harry Kane put them away with a second goal in the 82nd minute.
Spurs chances of making it back to the Champions League are looking pretty slim, but they did just gain a boost when Chelsea lost to West Ham on Wednesday. Now they go on a stretch of three games facing off against teams sitting at 10 or below in the table, and they need to capitalize.
If they did not have Harry Kane back for this match Spurs would not have been able to put a goal in. Sheffield United has a great defense, but with Kane back out there on the pitch many opportunities open up for other players. Like most Tottenham games, Kane is the key for Spurs to go on the road and get a win.
What a terrible restart it has been for Sheffield United. Before the pause, Sheffield United had an outside shot at a top four finish thanks in large part to their amazing defense. But since returning it has been catastrophic for the entire team. They have only scored one goal in four matches, drew against Aston Villa who sit at 18, got pummeled 3-0 by both Manchester United and Newcastle and finally lost a heartbreaker to Arsenal in the FA Cup Quarter Final.
Even with all of that, Sheffield United still sit at 10 in the table and are only 10 points off of fourth placed Chelsea. But the mountain may be too high to climb for Sheffield United, and what was once looking to be a promising season, will turn into a good season for a team that just got promoted.
Analysis and Prediction
The 2, 2.5 under is the easiest way to make money on Thursday. Sitting at Even, so pretty good value, I do not see a way this under does not hit. I know famous last words. However, this should be a 0-0 or 1-0 game as Sheffield United is at home and has a stellar defense, Tottenham has not been producing a ton of goals and in their three EPL games back since they break, Sheffield United has three total shots on goal. THREE SHOTS ON GOAL IN THREE GAMES. That’s terrible. Spurs defense can be not the best at times, but they still have some great defenders and Eric Dier is really coming into his own as a viable CB or DM. The under is the play all the way.
