Top 25 matchup in Madison this afternoon as #23 Wisconsin looks to pick up an elusive win against one of the conference’s 4 top teams as they host the Illinois Fighting Illini.
Wisconsin Badgers (16-8, 10-7)
All you need to know about the Badgers this season: “Wisconsin still cannot figure out how to beat the teams above them, most recently falling to Iowa by 15 at home last week. Don’t get me wrong, those are some of the best teams in the country, but Purdue, Rutgers, Minnesota, Michigan State, Maryland, Indiana, and even Northwestern all have at least one victory over 1 of those 4 teams.” I wrote this in my article about Wisconsin this week and until they beat one of the league’s top 4 teams, I will not believe in the Badgers to be a serious threat to make a run in the NCAA tournament. Even playing Illinois without Dosunmu, this would be a big prove it win for Wisconsin.
Illinois Fighting Illini (17-6,13-4)
Illinois had a nice bounce back win against Nebraska after losing to Michigan State earlier this week. Without Dosunmu, Cockburn was the star with 24 points and 7 rebounds, and Freshman Adam Miller stepped up with 18 points and 4 rebounds against the Huskers. That brings the Illini to 8-1 in their last 9 games. Even more impressively they are now 5-1 straight up in their last 6 road games. Dosunmu will also miss this game with the broken nose he suffered in the game vs MSU. Illinois will need Cockburn, Miller and the rest of the team to step up if they want to pull out the victory in Madison.
I think Illinois would have won by double digits if Dosunmu was playing but even without him I still think that Illinois has a good chance to win the game outright. Illinois has won 6 of their last 9 ATS and they have a 6-3 SU road record this year. Wisconsin as a favorite is only 7-8 ATS and already has 4 SU home losses to Michigan, Ohio State, Iowa, and Maryland. I like Illinois +170 money line, I like the over but I think that the best bet is Illinois plus the points. Take Illinois +5 for a unit
