Another Bayer Leverkusen star appears poised to follow Jonathan Tah out the door, as Jeremie Frimpong (24) is reportedly close to sealing a move to Premier League giants Liverpool, according to sources from BILD and Kicker.
Dutch coach Arne Slot (46), who is set to take over at Liverpool, has reportedly maintained close contact with Frimpong in recent weeks. Slot sees his fellow countryman as a natural successor to Trent Alexander-Arnold (26), who is widely rumored to be heading to Real Madrid. An agreement between Frimpong and Liverpool is said to be imminent.
Frimpong is expected to sign a long-term deal that would keep him at Anfield until 2030. His current contract with Leverkusen, which runs through 2028, includes a release clause estimated between €35 and €40 million.
The Dutch right-back joined Bayer Leverkusen in January 2021 from Celtic Glasgow for a fee of around €11 million. Since then, he has developed into one of the Bundesliga’s most explosive players, leading the league with 1,021 sprints in the current season.
Frimpong played a crucial role in Leverkusen’s historic 2024 campaign, helping the club secure a domestic double and the German Super Cup. Under head coach Xabi Alonso (43), he evolved into an international-caliber player, earning a spot on the Dutch national team and a ticket to the upcoming European Championship.
