The Formula 1 team AlphaTauri will debut under a new name in the 2024 season, marking a major rebranding decision. The team, originally launched as Toro Rosso in 2006 and later rebranded as AlphaTauri in 2020, will now be known as RB, with the full team name being Visa Cash App RB Formula One Team.
This change emphasizes a closer connection with the Red Bull Racing family, from which it originates. Since its inception, the team has played a pivotal role in developing young talent for Red Bull, helping nurture the careers of multiple F1 champions. Notable alumni of the team include four-time world champion Sebastian Vettel, three-time champion Max Verstappen, and race winner Daniel Ricciardo, all of whom gained experience with the team before moving on to Red Bull Racing.
For the 2024 season, Japanese driver Yuki Tsunoda will continue with the team, marking his fourth year in Formula 1. Meanwhile, Ricciardo, who returned to the team mid-2023 after a break due to injury, will maintain his position on the roster. Ricciardo had stepped in to replace Nyck de Vries during the 2023 season, after sustaining a wrist injury during a crash in Zandvoort.
The team has also experienced changes in leadership. After Franz Tost’s 18-year leadership, Laurent Mekies has taken over as team principal. Additionally, Peter Bayer, formerly with the FIA, has been appointed as CEO, strengthening the team’s management structure as they move forward under the RB brand.
This rebranding signifies a new era for the team, building on its legacy while aligning more closely with Red Bull’s overarching goals in Formula 1. The 2024 season promises to showcase this fresh identity as the team looks to solidify its position on the grid.
